Welcome to

Bonneville Fly Fishers

Vernal Area   June 26-29

This year’s trip to Vernal was later in the year, and it was hot around Steinaker Reservoir so we chose to fish the Diamond Mountain Lakes.

The fishing was very good – both Matt Warner and Zelph Caulder reservoirs have had 3 winters with no winterkill and the fish were fat and healthy.   Everyone caught some really nice rainbows.   Damselfly dries/nymphs and large terrestrials worked at both reservoirs.

Pat did get a chance to fish Brownie Reservoir on Monday and landed a nice splake.

Vernal – is close to both Red Fleet and Steinaker State Parks – but offers access to the A/B section of the Green River (1 hour drive), the Diamond Mountain Lakes (1 hour drive), Jones Hole Creek (1 hour drive), and the C section of the Green (1.5 hour drive), as well as Ashley Creek.   There are several campgrounds, hotels, a Wal-mart, Sportsman’s Warehouse, and some decent restaurants.  I encourage everyone to give it a shot when you find that the Provo/Weber has gotten a bit crowded.
